Satanika "Infection" Iron Shield Records (2012)

Quickly back with a grotesque offering, Satanika brings you the "Infection". A hearty slab of blackened thrash metal glorifying the old school style of metal and horror movies. The cover art gives you the correct atmosphere while you listen and features the band's mascot of sorts. The title track begins with an audio clip of an ominous voice declaring the return of Satanika and then quickly explodes into a thrashing frenzy. Production-wise the album sounds more organic and heavy than the debut so overall gives this sophomore release a unique feel.

The album is surprisingly diverse and boasts many interesting guest appearances. The absolute best being that of Bobby G. (ex-Overkill) who offers a frantic yet slightly melodic solo on the song "Abduction". Another great guest appearance is that of Lawrence Mackrory (Darkane, F.K.Ü.) whose clean vocals add a unique aspect to the song "Into the Fire" and gives a purely 80s sound. Other excellent appearances include Matt Harvey, 

Stephan Gebédi, and more!

The lyrics cover gruesome and putrid horror categories but delivered in a growling fashion by Cris Pervertor who is cultured in those topics and will have you chanting "Violent death, violent death. Hail the flesh!" or "Abducted by aliens, you lay in blood, don't look in their eyes, obey to their knives!"

Throughout the album your ears will be graced with many shredding solos from guitarist Barren; some remind me of the mighty Slayer but without the monotony that Kerry King tends to have. There are also a plethora of delicious riffs to be found on this album such as in the beginning of the ferocious "Psycho Slut" or the tempo-changing chug of "Abduction".

This band presents a well-constructed atmosphere which is hard to come by and I think can either make or a break a band. Everything from the CD booklet to the audio clips and production is well thought out and minutely planned to give such a unique feeling. I anxiously wait for a third album offering. In the mean time go buy this old school masterpiece and support the underground!.

Fleshgod Apocalypse "King" Nuclear Blast (2016)

Fleshgod Apocalypse is an italian death metal band who stay in the roots of sounds for many years, they have a many fans arround the world, who turn addicted at band´s sound. Fleshgod Apocalypse are from Perugia, Italy. Former in the 2009 the band scale from underground to sign for cult label Candlelight Records for your first album. This year release a fourth album called "King" between Nuclear Blast Records label this february 5th, 2016. One most important album from this year.

The band was formed by five members actually are: Francesco Paoli (Drums, guitars and backing vocals), Tommaso Riccardi (Leader vocals, guitars) , Cristiano Trionfera (Guitars, Vocals, Orchestration), Francesco Ferrini (Piano, Orchestration), Paolo Rossi (bass & backing vocals, All have a excelent level for all instruments and composition.

The song are really amazing, have a roots of riffs from past albums but with extra sounds like piano, orquestration and symphonic parts, the sound of Fleshgod Apocalypse don´t down for the conversely stay to much powerfull, the parts of battery are insane since the beginning. Amazing growls vocals too in the charge of Tommasso, the level are brutal in all song of album, all instruments stay quality in amazing style; all guitars are coordinated in the same riffs, the bass pulse sound good but the work battery complete the assembly. Ingredients parts orquestration appear in the moment exactly you enjoy the brutal sound and don´t bad the mixture across the minutes of songs. 

If you would highlight a few songs of this record, don´t could because all song is it so much level in compose music, stay in the same style but don´t sound likewise because are repleted by details like instrumental passages for a few seconds, the clean voices together the growls, the battery are fast in the songs don´t stop, this band get create one the most important album of the year. But ok, I can recommend the songs "The Fool", "Gravity", "Cold as a Perfection" and the instrumental. 

The stuff are different because containt the orquestal sounds, clean voices apper to much comparated with the past albums, amazing quality in any songs, to much powerfull and creative since beginning this record, I sure you enjoy all minutes of this album, because the level band stay 100%  xtreme in all record. I must mention the deluxe edition containt 2 CDs, first album with teh normal songs and the second album its the same songs but in orquestral and instrumental version only. One amazing release from this italian band.

Mortuary Drape "All The Witches Dance" Unisound (1995)

El primer full-lenght de una de las bandas italianas de culto de estilo Black/Death Metal los MORTUARY DRAPE una horda fundada desde las catacumbas en el año 1986. Una obra para la colección de todos los fanáticos del subgénero, estilo y de sonidos diferentes en una agrupación. Este trabajo fue muy bien logrado debido a la creatividad compositiva de los integrantes de la agrupación.

La banda tiene un sonido particular en cuanto a la estructura de todas las canciones como por ejemplo iniciar con rifs agudos de Black Metal, para luego sonar con delays de guitarra y rasgueos que se escuchan en el Death Metal e incluso en el Heavy Metal, eso si la voz nunca pierde la esencia maligna a la hora de escuchar las estrofas de cada una de las piezas. Esto la hace única en su estilo ya que no recordarás a ninguna otra banda que suene como ella ni siquiera de manera similar.

El sonido del grupo se baso en la excelente combinación de sonidos empleadas por los guitarristas Maniac Of Sacrifice y Old Necromancer, quienes poseen la suficiente creatividad para envolverte con los sonidos de dicho instrumento. Se acompañaron en este trabajo por el bajista Diabolic Obssession y por el vocalista-baterista nombrado Wildness Perversion. Con este cuarteto de geniales instrumentistas se dio forma a lo que hoy se conoce como uno de los mayores emblemas del Black Metal.

La banda se nombra como Occult Black Metal que es una definición bastante acertada en la descripción de la agrupación sobretodo por lo mencionado en cuanto a su estilo con los instrumentos pero también deberíamos mencionar la letra repleta de odas a los rituales y ceremonias paganas o de otra índole. “My soul/ Primordial” que es el intro y la pieza inicial de este álbum es una clara demostración de que la banda esta muy bien ensamblada y con identidad propia con las guitarras así como las vociferaciones en cada palabra de sus textos.

Pero la que sin duda se lleva la notoriedad es la pieza titulada “Astral Bewitchment” que debido a los buenos rifs oscuros y melódicos se puede apreciar una composición majestuosa de esta banda con su estilo. Bien ecualizadas las guitarras se pueden apreciar las notas de cada una de ellas durante todos los 5:48 de duración de la pieza.

Otra composición de la oscuridad es la titulada “Funeral Chant” que como su nombre lo indica es una pieza muy depresiva y un himno a la muerte podría decirse, pero sin caer en el estilo de Depressive Black Metal, ya que el tratamiento de las guitarras es diferente en cuanto a la ecualización y los rifs de cada nota, sin duda unos de los tracks sorprendentes porque te permite conocer otro tipo de estilo.

Para finalizar la demostración de buenas piezas de este trabajo, les dejo la titulada “Tregenda(Dance In Shroud)” uno de sus himnos de toda la discografía de Mortuary Drape que es infaltable en las recopilaciones que han llevado a cabo.Una pieza de ocultismo, magia negra y culto a lo siniestro.  Que la disfruten porque esto es un “himno de la oscuridad” para nosotros los fans del estilo.

La label orgullosamente mexicana Azermedoth Records la reeditó en el 2009 junto a su aclamado Ep “Into The Drape” que eran piezas que se habían descatalogado porr un largo tiempo casi 14 años para ser exactos. Una edición de lujo que nos permitió recordar las viejas glorias que esta banda tenía elaborado.
