Not every day one gets lost among the ruins of something ancient and almost unknown, brothers ... and Catacomb is one of the most pleasant discoveries that can be made on French soil. Coming from the coast of Toulon, these monstrous worshipers of Ktulhu knew how to create strong and dusty music, loaded with gloomy melodies (both keyboard and guitar) and a huge voice from the throat of James Moreau, one of the most beastly voices , serious and deep that I had the pleasure to taste in these lides.
Letting yourself be seduced by the music of Catacomb is equivalent to sinking into the most knotty and intricate roots of European death metal, that primordial broth that gave birth to an innumerable army of giants who walk with strong footfall even today. These Catacomb are part of the "fallen heroes", my friends, but you do not dare to doubt for a single moment the power that lies in their hands, because the talent they handled with them was great, and I doubt that not one of the here present (followers of the metal of death) can resist his tempting claim.
Here I give you the EP "In The Maze of Kadath", a short material that barely exceeds twelve minutes. This, comes from the demo of the same name (which surely I will also review here given its brilliance). All the music that your ears capture both from this EP and from the demo of the same name (which covers more songs) were already composed in 1992. I focused on the shortest work not only for my convenience, but for yours so that You know the band more easily (or remember it, the most veteran), by the way: That cover with Ktulhu has me in love, it's so fucking old school and dirty that it really encourages listening. Am I wrong?.
Every self-respecting terrifying adventure has to start with the irruption to the somber place object of the story, in this case we have Enter the Castle of Great Entities as intro and sound theatricalization of that, with some gloomy pianos that will escort us with a phantasmagorical aura during the rest of work. The Key is the cut that breaks with the disturbing "tranquility", the guitars weave tragedy with disastrous melodies, which give way to faster and faster harmonic leads. The low riffs appear next, along with the voice of James Moreau. At this moment, we feel as if the beast is chasing us through the corridors of the castle where we are. You breathe danger, you breathe evil. Jérôme does not disappoint, the beautiful Nathalie accompanies from the shadows providing the most atmospheric touches. Time's Lurker is also introduced reminiscent of the Enter the Castle of Great Entities pianos, although on the other hand riffs take less time to shake us up and attack more crisp and violent. Good rush, the third and last, not without good development, melodious solos, acoustic passages, well-kept drums and keyboards full of spiritism. I repeat that the download does not disappoint. MASTERPIECE.
