Sepultura "Bestial Devastation" EP. Cogumelo Records (1985)

Bestial Devastation is an EP by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released in 1985 through Cogumelo Records. It is their first official release, and originally appeared alongside Overdose's Século XX as a split album. The EP's songs were later released as bonus tracks on the CD version of Morbid Visions.
Because of Sepultura's collective lack of money, most of the instruments used on Bestial Devastation were borrowed from friends and acquaintances.

The vocals on the introductory track "The Curse" were performed by a friend of the band; according to Igor Cavalera:

“One thing I remember is that we had one of our friends come and do the voice for the intro ('The Curse') because he would do that voice without effects - he was kind of burping in a way. It was funny, so we had him come down and do it in the studio. I don't even remember his name!”
The band apparently fought with the producer during the recording. In an interview, Igor Cavalera said, "He wanted to clean everything up in the mix and we finally had to play him some records by Venom to show him that bands sounded this way".

Released December 1, 1985
Recorded August 1985 at J.G. Estudios, Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Genre Thrash metal, death metal
Length 15:37
Label Cogumelo, Roadrunner
Producer Sepultura

Bestial Devastation was released in December 1985, alongside Overdose's Século XX EP Over the next few months it sold 8,000 copies.[8] Sepultura's surprising success was partly attributed to the first Rock in Rio, which took place in Rio de Janeiro in January 1985. This music festival's line-up included Whitesnake, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Queen, Ozzy Osbourne and the Scorpions, and was responsible for Brazil's hard rock/heavy metal boom.

The EP was later reissued by Roadrunner Records on one CD with Morbid Visions in 1997. The reissue included a demo version of the song "Necromancer" that was the first studio recording of the band, and a live version of "Antichrist" from the Chaos A.D. tour, re-written as "Anticop".

Beginning to listen to “Bestial Devastation”, you will notice immediately the weird intro, titled “The Curse”:

“The curse is launched, beware.
The Lord of Death declared the war,
Satanas is invoked to destroy
and to command the BESTIAL DEVASTATION!”

These verses are spoken with a pretty laughable guttural tone. Many people find it just ridiculous, but I think it’s awesome as fuck: the fact is that they did it without any effect applied to the vocals! It’s incredible, if you think about it: a bunch of crazy Brazilian metalhead teens who just want to have fun playing extreme music in the vein of Venom and Hellhammer, in order to make the ordinary “satanic tongue-in-cheek” effect, come up with a monstrous intro using GUTTURAL GROWLS before everyone else... they were totally ahead of their time, and they didn’t even know it!.

Deströyer 666 "Wildfire" Season Of Mist (2016)

Deströyer 666 are back. The alarming news is that only band leader KK survived. A completely new line-up supports him. But stay calm. The personnel changes do not cause any damage. Deströyer 666 have forged a pact with the God of vicious metal and with their fans as well. The fundamental orientation has not changed. A mix of black, thrash and mega-intensive heavy metal sends its shockwaves while benefitting from a dense, vehement and pugnacious production. Despite the long period of silence since the publication of the last regular studio album, the horde has nothing lost of its force. The band believes in toughness, intensity and robustness. Aside from this, the musicians have the capability to vary their approach in order to deliver a suspenseful album. However, one element is omnipresent. The malignant, beastly aura ensures the homogeneous appearance of "Wildfire". Release for Season Of Mist in February 26th, 2016.

Track list are:
1.     Traitor
2. Live and Burn
3. Artiglio del Diavolo
4. Hounds at Ya Back
5. Hymn to Dionysus
6. Wildfire
7. White Line Fever
8. Die You Fucking Pig!
9. Tamam Shud

The band has created a handful of brilliant compositions. From my narrow-minded point of view, the strongest songs are naturally those where the dudes act as if there were no tomorrow. The title track and the opener taste like the most effective energy drink which is amplified by almost unhealthy flavour enhancer. These songs rely on truculent fundaments of pure heaviness and flattening riffs, while guitars eruptions contribute another facet of insanity. It may sound pretty trite, but Deströyer 666 spit on any form of compromise. Attack is the best defence and the four-piece embodies this motto in a very credible manner. The purity, the stubbornness and the radical attitude of their approach set my pulse racing. The two aforementioned thrash metal thunderstorms underline the exceptional position of the Australian legend. The guys can be very intransigent, but they always avoid to drift into pure noise. No doubt, KK controls the chaos.

Yet there are more soon-to-be-classics to discover. "Live and Burn", kicked off by belligerent riffs, is another rough diamond. Needless to mention that it also offers an impenetrable jungle of guitars which creates an intensive listening experience. However, the song has another outstanding feature. The rather mid-paced number scores with its triumphant, almost catchy chorus. Speaking of mid-paced pieces, I must also mention the fantastic "White Line Fever". It proves that Deströyer 666 do not lack of musicality. No need to panic, this does not mean that they present softened melodies. They rather combine thrilling melodies with their typical harshness. Almost fragile leads show up occasionally. They are accompanied by the extravagant performance of drummer Perracide who contributes well-accentuated drum rolls and KK adds fairly melodic vocal lines. To avoid misunderstandings: he is able to manage this surprisingly harmonic tones. It is therefore no problem that he rarely uses his voice in a pretty melodic way. But do not confuse his mighty "ooohooohooohooo" with the approach of these trendy Vikings that have long beards instead of longships and play electric guitars instead of folkloric instruments.

The four described pieces and the equally impressive, almost epic "Hounds at Ya Back" form the spearhead of an album that reflects pure fanaticism. I do not want to disguise the fact that a very small number of songs fails to reach the highest level of quality. Anyway, the overall picture is highly fascinating. The authenticity of the band leader and his henchmen ennobles even the slightly weaker tracks. Instead of thinking about the profitability of their music, the members of the gang are focused on the creation of pure metal. Small restriction: solely for commercial reasons, the "deluxe digibox" offers a bonus track. Regardless of the fact that this piece lasts only three minutes, it is not surprising that "Deathblow" did not find a place on the regular edition of the album. It is neither a letdown nor a highlight, a solid track. But its most important function for the band - or its management - is obviously that it serves as a unique selling point for the digibox. Is this approach compatible with the often praised "values of metal"? You decide. However, with regard to the non-excessive playtime of the regular album, they should have add this song on every edition of "Wildfire". Anyway, there is no need to over-dramatise this point; Deströyer 666 have composed a very intriguing fifth full-length. It cannot be described as groundbreaking, but it cements the well-deserved reputation of the band.

Deströyer 666 are:

KK Vocals, Guitars, Lyrics (tracks 2, 4-9), Songwriting
Perra Drums, Songwriting
Felipe Bass, Vocals (additional) (track 9), Songwriting (track 9)
Ro Guitars, Songwriting (tracks 6, 7)

Sarcófago "I.N.R.I." Cogumelo Records (1987)

This is indeed my favorite black metal album of all time, although it is quite a shame the bands later releases suffered that true raw and classic feeling this released had. This release has had as much of an impact on black metal as early releases by other 80's black/thrash bands such as early Bathory and early Sodom. Everything about this album is pure evil, the obscure "vomits", the dirty guitar riffs, the over the top blast beats and to much malignant sound in this line up: Antichrist in vocals, the master DD Crazy in drums, Incubus in bass and Butcher in the guitars... this is epic man! is that guys beating the shit out of his kit. The vocals surprisingly vary a lot, from low growls, to your average black metal vocals, and to ultra guttural voice effects that perhaps were borrowed on Beherit's "Drawing Down the Moon" release.

There is indeed a big german thrash influence that can be found on this release, from acts like Sodom and Kreator, infact the riffs on this album are more thrashy than they are black metal. But its satanic atmosphere and lyrics make up for it. Speaking of the lyrics, I really do not think their vocalist/song writer Wagner knew english during this release, no, it seems as if they simply translated every word from portugese to english, the majority of the words spoken are in fact pronounced entirely wrong but this can be forgiven as the band comes from Brazil. I am not exactly sure about the original vynil release, but for the first 1987 via Cogumelo Records release of this album, the sound is very good, the guitars do not sound static, the voices are not muffled and bass can actually be heard. This is infact a very raw release and would be most enjoyed by any fan of black, thrash or death metal. Any fan of old extreme acts such as old Beherit, early Sodom, early Bathory, early Sepultura, Blasphemy, and Possessed should own this album.

Side A - Side of Ascenssion
1. Satanic Lust
2. Desecration of Virgin
3. Nightmare
4. I.N.R.I.

Side B - Side of Fall
5. Christ's Death
6. Satanas
7. Ready to Fuck
8. Deathrash
9. The Last Slaughter

Sarcofago's "I.N.R.I." is considered a Black metal classic for obvious reasons. It made everything else seem like pale imitations and it called bands out due to their wimpiness. Sarcofago in their very early days were already a cult act who were pushing boundaries with their demos and appearance on Cogumelo's Warfare Noise I compilation. Alongside fellow up and-coming band Sepultura, Mutilator, and Vulcano who had already released the godly first ever South American black metal album "Bloody Vengeance," Sarcofago pulled out all the stops and injected an unholy dosage of breakneck speed to the already fast-evolving Black metal scene, and not just in South America but worldwide. The only other band that was playing anything as extreme as this were England's grindcore bastard song Napalm Death. That should give you an idea on how groundbreaking this album is.

Not only was the music extreme but so was their image. Sarcofago took the standard spikes and leather and made it even more demonic. Sarcofago were also the first band to properly use what is now modern-day corpsepaint. King Diamond, Celtic Frost, Bathory and early Slayer had sewn the seeds of the macabre facial paint; Sarcofago made it fucking evil. Sarcofago even started the trend of black metal fans standing around in the graveyard looking goofy, but Sarcofago made it look like they were for fucking real. Take Destruction's look on the first Destruction E.P "Sentence of Death," put it on steroids and that's what you get. The drummer DD Crazy with hi two foot high mohawk, corpsepaint and bullet belts is possibly the coolest fucking thing I have seen on an album cover. Also as a trivial note, this is the band Mayhem's guitarist said he wanted every band to sound and look like.

For the most part, Sarcofago's music could be described as crude and ugly. Wagner Antichrist's vocals are low and demonic-sounding without it sounding corny and a few high falsettos. Guitars sound like a chainsaw with the throttle on full blast. Drummer D.D. Crazy...how the fuck is he playing THAT fast? The drums are so fast it will induce a few dizzy spells. There's little to no bass on this album which actually fits perfectly. The sound production is probably the ugliest there is next to Beherit's "The Oath of Black Blood."

I really can't say there is a bad song on here, just some will be stuck in your head for years to come; "Nightmare," "Satanic Lust," "Desecration Of Virgin," "Deathrash," "Ready To Fuck," and "Christ's Death" will have any fan of black metal or extreme metal in general salivating and going absolutely fucking nuts.

P.S. I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but if you get your hands on "I.N.R.I." try to get the original orange cover or if you are a die-hard vinyl collector, try getting the Nuclear War Now Productions picture disc. Stay away from the shitty Pavement Music release where they completely omit the classic graveyard photo for some shitty stock photo and even misplaced track listing.

Maniac Butcher "Masakr" Negative Existence (2010)

It's been a good past year for comeback albums by some of black metal's greats. We have had excellent releases by both Beherit and Profanatica. Now we have the return of Maniac Butcher!, a band that I feel has put out nothing but quality releases during their entire career. So needless to say when news of this album came my way, I rushed to order this album "Masakr" release in august 2010 by Negative Existence label, limited in 500 copies in Gatefold LP

Masakr opens up with some quick atmospherics before the brutality commences. For those of you not in the know, Maniac Butcher play straight forward, no frills black metal in the tradition of second wave Norwegian bands. Traces of early Gorgoroth, Mayhem, and early Immortal can be found all over Masakr, there are no keyboards or female vocals at all on this, or any Maniac Butcher release. The line up in this record are
Vlad Blasphemer (R.I.P. 2015): Guitars, Songwriting
Barbarud Hrom: Vocals, Lyrics
Infernal Vlad: Guitars
Lord Obst: Bass
Coroner: Drums in studio

Lets start with the production, it's very abyss studio sounding to me. I'm more accustomed to the complete raw degradation of albums like Invaze and Barbarians, so I find this clean more polished production very detrimental. The drums in particular sound way too punchy, and mechanical. I like how everything sounds the same on the drum kit.

The track list in album is:
Side A:
1. Desatero krutých zim přežitých v teple žhnoucí záře slávy minulé
2. Projížďka hvozdem hlubokým za oučelem sčítání stavůch vlkůch a vlkodlakůch
3. Rozhodnutí nezvratné všecken mír rozhodně rozvracející

Side B:
4. Bezbožné rouhání zpovědní před tažení vojnového započetím
5. Masakr krvavý pro plnění zájmůch vyšších i řezničení nadbytečné pro kojení pudůch nízkých
6. Zakončení ouděsné bezpočtům krutou jistotu slibující, však mne bezpočet slibných nejistot skýtající

The other down side to this album is the actual drumming of Coroner. It is very dull and sterile, to say the least. There are almost no drum fills at all and I just feel that his performance could have been stepped up significantly. The guitar tone is razor sharp, and sounds huge thanks in part to the clear production. The production also favors the bass tones too, there is a lot of bass presence on Masakr.

Barbarud Hrom's vocals are excellent as usual, his angry overly aggressive tone is right upfront and in your face...as it should be. The songs also seem a little more varied on Masakr. Mixed in to the brutal black metal we are treated to thrash styled riffs that would not seem out of place on a Kreator or Sodom album. The effect is crushing and very dynamic in it's chaotic delivery.

So how does Masakr stand up to older Maniac Butcher releases? Quite good actually, this is not their best work but is an excellent starting point for those who want to get into Maniac Butcher. It's not a perfect album but when your in need of a true black metal fix Masakr will definitely feed your appetite.

This is a few link of album´s song "Masakr".

Anyway the last full-lenght album of Czech masters are amazing and brutal blasphemous because is a legacy of one member who past R.I.P. in 2015: master Vlad Blasphemer

Archgoat ""The Apocalyptic Triumphator" Debemur Morti Productions (2015)

Archgoat spewed forth their latest offering to the world this year with "The Apocalyptic Triumphator". Behold, for it is their strongest work to date in my opinion. While the artwork is as straightforward as it gets, the music is by no means simple. The line up in this record are: Lord Angelslayer in bass & vocals; Ritual Butcherer in the guitars and songwriting too; Sinisterror in drums.

The thing that strikes me the most is how much Archgoat have grown since their unhallowed resurrection from the black abyss. Whore of Bethlehem is in-your-face flaying heaviness. The Light-Devouring Darkness continues the blasphemous black crusade with more polished sound while missing bits and pieces of the raw energy found in their debut. Come 2015, the band presented to us what can be described as the absolute manifestation of the very black art that they live by and die for.

The track list are:
Side A:
1. Intro (Left Hand Path)
2. Nuns, Cunts and Darkness
3. The Apocalyptic Triumphator
4. Phallic Desecrator of Sacred Gates
5. Grand Luciferian Theophany
6. Those Below (Who Dwell in Hell)

Side B:
7. Intro (Right Hand Path)
8. Congregation of Circumcised
9. Sado-Magical Portal
10. Light of Phosphorus
11. Profanator of the 1st Commandment
12. Funeral Pyre of Trinity

The pieces its an amazing blasphemous like “Nuns, Cunts and Darkness” is just the kind of song title you’d expect to get from Archgoat. Starting off with the traditional esophagus-crushing riff played over choked cymbal, it is a solid offering that sets the stage for what’s to come on the rest of the album. This particular song stays true to the band’s roots. Yes. They need not to change anything.

Archgoat managed to inject profane surprises into each song. The vocals are still the same with occasional scream in between but this time, spoken parts made a brief cameo as well and they are very clearly heard. The best example for this would be “Grand Luciferian Theophany” where all the more cliché “Hail Satan” and “Hail Lucifer” are chanted repeatedly.

While Archgoat are often not associated with pure blinding speed like other bands in the same Satanic den, “Phallic Desecrator of Sacred Gates” and “Congregation of Circumcised” have top-notch speed that is not quite prominent in their previous releases. “Phallic Desecrator of Sacred Gates” also opens with drum rolls I have never heard of in their career, particularly in their last two full lengths. This fact proves to be a valuable addition to the band style of playing which indicates that they have progressed somehow while obstinately retaining the concept that they helped conceived from the very first day.

Another element that makes this record a winner is the surprising inclusion of lead solos, albeit sparsely. As I said, the lead guitar is employed sparingly but to a greater effect that it does not bore you in the long run. The solos are of course non melodic, they are instead sinister in nature, like a wolf lurking among the woods at night, stalking your every move before it jumps on you to disembowel you alive. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the first time in my life that I get to hear Angelslayer’s bass solo on the middle section of “Funeral Pyre of Trinity”, which is yet another great surprise from this record.

Personally, this is the most brilliant work by Archgoat. Just the kind of output that is to be expected from the trio of Satanic crusaders from Finland. The band have definitely grown in the music department. The production is clear and subtle but it is no less aggressive from their previous offerings. Despite the blackening progression, the message behind their music remains the same; defilement of all things holy, adulation to the horned Lord, and the ever-present play on private parts, with the band now targeting a group of circumcised men of God for irreverent desecration. The Apocalyptic Triumphator is indeed a triumphant achievement for Archgoat. It is a surprise that many people have yet to review this disgusting masterpiece.

One the best underground album of 2015. Amazing record from the finish lands with full power of blasphemy.

Hail ARCHGOAT!!!

Tsjuder "Antiliv" Season Of Mist (2015)

The eightfold dosage of the devil's work is upon us! 4 years have passed since the outstanding Legion Helvete and finally Tsjuder disclosed to us the new creation "Antiliv" was release in september 18th, 2015. Continuing on taking no prisoners, the band once again validates its position on the black metal scene. A cult album from Season Of Mist label in double LP in vinyl 12" rpm.

No salvation or deliverance! It's the pure Tsjuder at its best. You simply can't get more straight to the point than with the opening Kaos - the characteristic Tsjuder sound makes the band impossible to be confused with any other outfit. Traditional black metal values are cultivated and Antiliv is firmly rooted in them. The speed and eagerness is no different to previous releases but the extra shot of chaos makes the new album stand out. The sound is impeccable and the whole album is recorded with a care for details which allow you to pick up a lot of bewitching moments. Tsjuder line up is: Nag: bass & vocals, Draugluin: guitars, vocals (backing), AntiChristian: drums

The track list album:
1. Kaos
2. Krater
3. Norge
4. Djevelens Mesterverk
5. Demonic Supremacy
6. Slumber With The Worm
7. Ved Ferdens Ende
8. Antiliv

Nag's vocals remain on the very high level and, being a medium of spreading evil, act as perfect addendum for the album's professional production. This proper anti-life mixture seems to be very diverse in spite of the apparent one-dimensional character of Tsjuder. The good black'n'roll overtones of Demonic Supremacy and its mid-track slowdown bring the touch of the old dirty metal and, interestingly, give Antiliv some form of freshness which I always look for in black metal. Also, the title song features the most catchy riff which automatically makes my head go up and down. Amazing blasphemous lyrics in english & norwegian.

The limited edition of Antiliv has got a potential to be one of my favourite releases this year. The quality and attention to details is outstanding and it shamelessly stands for the True Norwegian Black Metal. It contains the rehearsal versions of three songs plus two cover tracks. Tsjuder covering Mayhem's Deathcrush... Can you get more Norwegian? The other one is a tribute to the cult scene of Finland with a fantastic performance of Unholy Pagan Fire by Beherit. The box also contains the beautiful flag and band's patch.

Antiliv is a little bit less uncompromising songs than the preceding Legion Helvete but it brings more novelty to Tsjuder's discography. They might be comparable albums in terms of dynamism and energy, however Antiliv clicks immediately as a brilliant record. Tsjuder successfully consolidated its status and I hope they bring the same vitality spreading the plague through the live shows. Total Black Metal in the vein of cold forest and misanthropy world. The lyrics are amazing don´t have a changes respect to others albums.

This is a few links about the songs in the amazing album. Hail Tsjuder!!!!!

Way better than Legion Helvete, the new Tsjuder record forcefully demonstrates that some veterans of the Norwegian scene are still able to carry powerful albums that get their energy directly from the dark source. Uncompromising and merciless, Antiliv is a must and should be heard by anyone who claims to be a black metal fan.

Amorphis "Under The Red Cloud" Nuclear Blast (2015)

Lado A
1 Under The Red Cloud
2 The Four Wise Ones
3 Bad Blood

Lado B
1 The Skull
2 Death Of A King
3 Sacrifice

Lado C
1 Dark Path
2 Enemy At The Gates
3 Tree Of Ages

Lado D
1 White Night
2 Come The Spring
3 Winter's Sleep

Hail AMORPHIS!!!!!

SATANIC WARMASTER / ARCHGOAT - Lux Satanae (Thirteen Hymns Of Finnish Devil Worship) (Hells Headbangers, 2015)

Lado A
1. Satanic Warmaster - Black Destiny 05:14
2. Satanic Warmaster - Wolves of Blood and Iron 05:34
3. Satanic Warmaster - Satanic Winter (Pest cover) 05:13
4. Satanic Warmaster - My Kingdom of Darkness 04:44

Lado B
5. Archgoat - Jesus Spawn 01:08
6. Archgoat - Death & Necromancy 02:59
7. Archgoat - Penis Perversor 02:07
8. Archgoat - Angelcunt 02:20
9. Archgoat - Satanic Oath 00:51
10. Archgoat - Soulfay 02:31
11. Archgoat - Black Messiah 02:39
12. Archgoat - Thrice Damned Sodomizer (Streams of Blood) 02:51
13. Archgoat - Rise of the Blackmoon 02:45
